The NESSR Scruffy Appeal

At the end of August Northern English Springer Spaniel Rescue was asked to take in a young springer called Scruffy. We were told that a change in family circumstances meant his family were no longer able to look after him.

Almost as soon as he arrived his foster carer noticed that he seemed to be having some problems with his back legs. So when he was in the vets for his neutering operation he was also x-rayed. The vet found that Scruffy has no hip sockets so without surgery he will be unlikely to be able to walk by the time he is 3 years old. The cost of this operation and follow-up treatment is likely to be approximately £3,000, money that will need to be raised because the vet feels that there is a high chance of a successful operation and a significant improvement to the quality of Scruffy’s life.

£3000 is a lot of money and sadly NESSR does not have insurance to cover bills like this. Our vets already give us discounts on things like neutering, we already have a company that gives us cost price prescriptions, they have to make a living and we are not the only animal rescue charity that asks them to be kind with their billing. So sadly in order for Scruffy to get the operation NESSR needs to fundraise. By choosing to help scruffy we are not denying any treatment to other dogs, the £3000 we raise will be on top of all our other fundraising that we are already doing for the other dogs.

Every week NESSR gets in dogs that people have discarded either because of changes in family circumstances or issues with the dog's health or behaviour or quite simply they can't be bothered with the dog anymore. 95% of our dogs will never make it as working dogs, they are either too old when they come to us or too "damaged" to be anything other than a much loved family pet. These dogs get the very best quality of life that we are able to give them, we find them the best possible homes. Dogs are resilient and overcome horrendous early starts in life when they are given the right amount of TLC and patience.

Every penny you give will benefit 250+ a year we rescue and rehome including those special cases like Scruffy. As that well known supermaket says "every little helps"
